ABOUT
Being Abroad is a project aiming to publish a collection of personal stories about relocating to a foreign country. It aspires to sidestep the traditional styles of travel writing and instead focus on the emotional aspects and consequences of living abroad.

The original project website launched in the autumn of 2006 and the closing date for regular submissions was 31st of January 2007.

After that we sent 10 sketchbooks around the world to 100 people to allow them more creative control over their entries. The books are finally starting to come home now and we are currently reading through everyone's work in order to compile and release a limited set of handmade books.

You can follow our progress on this page.

An update for March

March 27th, 2008 by russell

The proofreading stage is taking a little longer than planned, but we are still ploughing through all of the chosen entries to get them in shape for the book. Some exciting news is that Lucy and I are moving to Zürich in June and we plan to direct the resulting heady rush of culture shock into writing out parts for the book and getting it finished off. Speak soon.

Happy new year! 2008 is not only the year of the rat, it’s also the year that the Being Abroad project will reach its much anticipated conclusion. Not wishing to dawdle any longer, Lucy and I sat down this very afternoon to work on the almost-final list of entries that will be used in the final book. In the coming days we will begin proof reading and ordering the texts, while starting to consider the actual logistics of printing and producing the collection. We will keep this blog updated with news of our progression.
